ARARA 2021 Conference


Virtual ARARA Conference 2021
June 12-13, 2021

Conference Information: We are meeting via professionally live-streamed Zoom on June 12-13, 2021. The program will consist of 15-minute PowerPoint papers and 5-minute “virtual” field trips (using video format). Publication of papers will be done in the standard way, with a volume of American Indian Rock Art being mailed to 2020 members in the spring of 2021. If you have not renewed your membership for 2021, please consider doing so at this time to take advantage of the member registration discount and to assure receiving your annual journal at the 2022 conference.

Every effort has been made to make this conference feel like a normal meeting, but we have some restrictions due to the virtual format and costs associated with it. However, two days of presentations are planned, which will closely resemble what you are used to experiencing. There will be breaks for you to get up and stretch, visit the facilities of your home, and replenish your food and drink. However, during break times your computer screen will be filled with a variety of photographs, especially featuring those of Daniel McCarthy, a long-time ARARA member who passed away earlier this year, so hurry back. Daniel was one of only two people who had attended every ARARA conference up to 2021.

The conference will include a business meeting and an awards ceremony. Awards will be presented for both 2020 and 2021 winners. The recipients have worked hard and deserve to have their recognition acknowledged by us as an organization. We encourage everyone to tune in for these events.

There will be no banquet, auction, vendor room, or committee meetings during this conference. There will also be no break-out rooms for chatting as some of you may have experienced at other virtual meetings. The software and personnel to accommodate these experiences is expensive and more than the organization could bear. These features will all return in-person for the 2022 meeting in Great Falls.

Please consider donating to ARARA, if that is within your budget. We realize it has been a challenging year for many, and it has been no different for organizations such as ours. Possibly some of you can spare some of what you would have spent on transportation and accommodations for this conference. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated.

Registration: You will need to complete the conference registration form in order to attend the conference events. Registered participants will receive a link to Zoom to sign in to the conference. This link will be sent to you closer to the conference date. Each registration allows one link to a computer, but there is no limit to the number of people you may gather at your computer beyond following social distancing guidelines. This means you only one person needs to register for your household not for every member in your household. Registration is $40 for ARARA members, $50 for non-members, and there is no charge for students.
