ARARA presents...

Northern Plains inscriptions include names, dates, commentary text and drawings which have been carved, written, and painted on the landscape. While often found near pictographs and petroglyphs, these inscriptions cover a time period ranging from the arrival of the Contact Era to the contemporary period and represent an unbroken stream of regional and national history.

Dr. Timothy Urbaniak has an extensive background leading academic, commercial, and volunteer projects applying technology to the documentation of historical and archaeological resources. Past projects have included rock art and historic inscription surveys, 3D reconstructions of historic sites, digital imaging applications, surveying technologies, desktop virtual reality, three-dimensional scanning, and applications of multimedia. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Montana where he studied historic inscriptions and their role as a form of residual cultural communication.

He is now retired emeritus from teaching at MSUB and currently manages TRU Technologies LLC, an archaeological, historical, and anthropological research and consulting service. His research work exploring and documenting historic inscriptions continues.
