    Message # 8096938

    Greetings!

You are receiving this email as you expressed an interest in the Education Committee of ARARA.  If you do not wish to receive further emails, please let me know and I will take you off the list.

New Education Forum on ARARA website

I will be sharing some topics on the new "Education Forum" on the ARARA website under the Education tab.  You can add comments there too!  This will be a great place for us to have discussions. Or, always feel free to email me directly at ksteelman@shumla.org if you have something you would like to bring up with the committee.

    Student Presenters at ARARA Conferences

All qualified students with accepted abstracts who present at the conference are eligible to receive a $500 travel advance award to help with expenses associated with attending the conference.  No application is needed.  Just submit your abstract for the meeting and check that you are a student.  Once abstracts have been accepted, you will be notified about the Student Travel Award.

Abstract submission is not open yet, but please notify any possible students that you might know who would be interested in attending and presenting at the next ARARA conference!

    Student Research Award

This is up to $2500 of support for a graduate-level student.  Award funds are for reimbursement of research expenses in order to publish a thesis, dissertation, or peer-reviewed academic paper as part of a student’s academic program. Go here to learn more.  Once I learn of any applicants, I will let the committee know.

    Project Archaeology Workshop

ARARA Member, Jan Gorski, contacted Mavis, Kendra, and I about the Education Committee sponsoring a workshop by Project Archaeology at the Great Falls conference.  Or, maybe supporting materials for local teachers.  I have sent an email to those at Project Archaeology and will keep you updated on what I learn, so we can decide if the committee wants to support this.

Hope everyone is having a happy November!  It's finally cooled off here in south Texas.  Let me know if you have any questions/suggestions/comments.

    Thank you,

    Karen Steelman

    ARARA Education Committee Chair
